This is the second part to the discussion we were having a couple of weeks ago just before the new year.
The concept of Men and Women being equal is alien to some people, especially religious people, because they confuse essence with function. Men and Women are equal in essence but different in function, just as in the Trinity, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are all equal in essence but different in function. This is why when a person is baptized, they are baptized in the Name of (or the authority of ) the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. In the Godhead, there is unity in diversity (The Heavenly Family), which should be mirrored by the earthly family. This was the last thing Jesus said before leaving: Mat 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Mat 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Mat 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. To demonstrate that unity in diversity, even at Jesus’s own baptism the Trinity was present: Mat 3:13 Jesus is Baptized (Mark 1:9-11; Luke 3:21-22) Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. Mat 3:14 But John tried to stop him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and are you coming to me?” Mat 3:15 But Jesus answered him, “Let it be this way for now, because this is the proper way for us to fulfill all righteousness.” [Dan 9:24] At this, he permitted him to be baptized. Mat 3:16 When Jesus had been baptized, he immediately came up out of the water. Suddenly, the heavens opened up for him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him. Mat 3:17 Then a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love. I am pleased with him!” If you notice, Jesus did not say “for me to fulfill all righteous, but he said “for us” Jesus’s baptism through the Godhead was Heaven and Earth coming together to seal the salvation plan for mankind in perfect unity. It was the Godhead’s love for mankind, the Godhead’s willingness to act and the Godhead’s power, that enabled salvation to happen. This is why it is so dangerous to trying separating Jesus to just a created being as some sects do, because to moment you do that, there is no longer unity in diversity and the power of salvation is lost, no matter how sincere the people of those sects are. Redefining God to fit in with your limited understanding of heaven, is parallel to trying to refine marriage to fit in to the lifestyle of modern culture. Just as marriage cannot be redefined, so to God cannot be redefine either. This is why he has given us his word and even though the word Trinity does not appear in the Bible and was not used until the 2nd century, God as a Trinity has been demonstrated and identified through out the scriptures: Isa 48:12 The Lord Calls Israel “Listen to these things, Jacob, and Israel, whom I have called. I am the One: I am the first, I am even the last. Isa 48:13 Moreover, my hands laid the earth’s foundation, and my right hand spread out the heavens. I call out to them, and they stand up together. Isa 48:14 Let all of them come together and listen: Who is there among them that could declare these things? “The Lord loves me, and he will accomplish my purpose against Babylon; his arm will be against the Chaldeans. Isa 48:15 I—Yes, I!—have spoken; indeed, I’ve called and I’ve brought him, and he will make his path successful. Isa 48:16 Draw near to me, and listen to this: ‘From the beginning I haven’t spoken in secret; at the time it happened, I was there.’ And now the Lord God, and his Spirit, has sent me. Isa 48:17 “This is what the Lord says, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you how to succeed, who directs you in the path by which you should go. We will never truly understand the fullness of God while we are here because we are imperfect and we only know in part (1 Corintians 13:9), this is why many people struggle with the concept of the Trinity and even the best explanation still does not do it justice. However, it is better to move forward and act imperfectly than to stand still and do nothing perfectly. God is the one perfecting us through our life journey, all we have to do is follow his lead!
