We live in a world where there is so much going on, so much access to information and entertainment, it is very easy to get distracted if we let our guard down.
Today we have access to resources that would have in the past taken weeks to track down. We live in the Information Age! This has positive aspects and also negative ones, on the positive side, information can be spread globally in a matter of seconds. However on the negative side, people globally have more access to wickedness than any other time in human history. This is why we need to stay focused. Distractions cause a person to do and say things that they really shouldn’t be saying or doing and the enemy uses distractions to stop a person reaching their full potential that God has predestined for them to achieve. A good example of this was King David. There was a time when he should have been out on the battlefield with his men but instead he stayed a home. Now because he was operating outside of his correct activities, Satan used this as an opportunity to get him to fall through distraction: 2Sa 11:2 Late one afternoon about dusk, David got up from his couch and was walking around on the roof of the royal palace. From there he watched a woman taking a bath, and she was very beautiful to look at. 2Sa 11:3 David sent word to inquire about her, and someone told him, “This is Eliam’s daughter Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah the Hittite, isn’t it?” 2Sa 11:4 So David sent some messengers, took her from her home, and she went to him, and he had sex with her. If David would have been doing what he was supposed to be doing, then he would not have been in the place to be distracted. Eventually he even had the woman’s husband executed in an attempt t hide his sin. Distractions can kill you because you are no longer concentrating on where you are going. One of the reasons why God told the Israelites not to intermarry with the women from the pagan nations was that they would distract them from worshipping the true and living God and cause them to follow after idols. We see this over and over again in the Old Testament how this was the case. King Solomon a man that started off so well, but got distracted by his many wives which turn his heart away from God. How many pastors and leaders do we hear about who fall into sin, getting distracted by a pretty face? The enemy’s strategy is always the same: 1. The lust of the flesh 2. The lust of the eyes 3. The pride of life. It is what he used against Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and it is what he tempted Jesus with after he had fasted for 40 days and nights. Distracting someone from the truth, causes them to believe a lie, this is why there are so many false religions in the world today, because if you can throw enough mud in the water, you can try and distort the truth. The Enemy even uses a perversion of the word to distract people, so you have people like the Mormons and the Jehovah’s Witnesses that have their own version of the Gospel, which is truth mixed with a lot of lies. So you have good intentional people that have maybe been brought up in that system or introduced to it, being distracted by organizational belief rather than the truth of scripture. Distraction is one of the enemies major tools to cause people to stay outside of the will of God and the only way to combat it is to know the word for yourself and also God’s will and plan for your life. Parallel Principals When building a home based business, there are so many things to distract us, from people’s opinions to lazy distributors, to complaining customers. However we need to be focused, we need to have our WHY constantly before us, because that is the only thing that is going to keep us going. People will try and offer you offer, so called better opportunities, so called better products. They will try and convince you of easier ways the make money. All these things are to distract you from what you should be doing. People who get distracted jump from one opportunity to the other and never make any real progress in any of them.
