Hezekiah was a good king who did all the right things, he removed all of the places of idol worship from the land of Judah and he obeyed all of God’s commandment and he was faithful to God.
However when an enemy that was very strong came up against him he was so gripped with fear that when the enemy demanded certain things Kings Hezekiah took the gold and the silver that was in the house of God to try and meet the demand.
Sennacherib the king of Assyria was very strong and had conquered many nations; he was arrogant and self-confidant. He had already taken Israel and he was now going to take Judah.
He had overcome many nations in the past who had trusted in their gods and so it did faze him that if Hezekiah said he was going to trust in his God. So because of this he was very blasphemous against the God of Judah. He even used the people around the King to try and install even more fear into the King about the situation; by trying to say that, Hezekiah’s trust in his God was deceiving them because no one can stand up against him.
His response was to cry out to the Lord and God heard him.
2Ki 19:6 And Isaiah said to them, You shall say to your master, So says Jehovah, Do not be afraid of the words which you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed Me.
2Ki 19:7 Behold, I will send a blast on him, and he shall hear a rumor and shall return to his own land. And I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.
God’s Response to Hezekiah’s enemy
God sent a word to Hezekiah explaining why his enemy had been so successful, it was all part of God’s plan but now God was about to turn things around, so Hezekiah should not be fearful because God was going to prove himself to him.
The out come of God Deliverance
2Ki 19:32 So Jehovah says this concerning the king of Assyria. He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor throw up a bank against it.
2Ki 19:33 By the way that he came, by the same he shall return, and shall not come into this city, says Jehovah.
2Ki 19:34 For I will defend this city, to save it for My own sake and for My servant David's sake.
2Ki 19:35 And it happened that night, the Angel of Jehovah went out and struck a hundred and eighty-five thousand in the camp of the Assyrians. And they arose early in the morning, and behold, they were all dead bodies.
2Ki 19:36 And Sennacherib king of Assyria departed. And he went and returned and lived at Nineveh.
2Ki 19:37 And it happened as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, Adrammelech and Sharezer, his sons, struck him with the sword. And they escaped into the land of Ararat. And Esarhaddon his son reigned in his place.
There maybe someone on this phone that has been gripped by fear because of some bad news about an impending attack of the enemy. However God is saying today, do not fear for his strength is made perfect in your weakness.
The same way he defended Hezekiah and Judah is the same way he will defend you!
No matter what the enemy is saying to you about what he has done in the past and that he is going to do it again in your future, God is saying it isn’t going to happen!
No matter who the enemy is using to speak to you about your destruction, God is saying he knows the thoughts he has towards you, thoughts of good not evil, to give you an expected end.
So believe God’s report not your enemy’s for as Psalms 91 v 11-12 says
“Psa 91:11 For He shall give His angels charge over You, to keep You in all Your ways.
Psa 91:12 They shall bear You up in their hands, lest You dash your foot against a stone.”
