My Pastor has a saying and it says “Your gifts and talents can take you where your character can’t keep you”. Having a good character is so important in order for a person to get on in life, whether they are believers or non believers, but it is even more so for the believers, as we are to be representatives of Christ in everything that we do 24/7. If we call ourselves Christians we are to understand that there is a responsibility that comes with that title and it means to be Christ like. You should not have to walk around with a banner that says “I’m a Christian” on it or wear a T-shirt or have a car sticker. On the contrary, it should be because of your character that the non-believers identify in your and say “ There goes a Christian”. This is what happen is Antioch and is the first mention of the title “Christian” in the scriptures: Act 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch. You cannot fake good character because eventually you will be found out because your bad behaviour WILL be exposed. This normal happens when a person is under pressure, whether it is financial pressure or emotional pressure, in these cases the true nature or character of a person creeps out. When you call yourself a Christian and you behave in this way, you are lying to the Holy Spirit and you are placing yourself in a very dangerous place: Act 5:1 And a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession. Act 5:2 And he kept back part of the price, his wife also knowing, and brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles' feet. Act 5:3 But Peter said, Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart for you to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Act 5:4 While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own authority? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God. Act 5:5 And hearing these words, Ananias fell down and expired. And great fear came on all those who heard these things. We serve a God that sees all things and knows all things, he knows the fakeness of people, he knows the true motive of people. He knows the dangers of this world and the attitudes attached to them and this is why he told us in his word, that we should be in the world but not of the world: 1Jn 2:16 because all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. Having a good character will open up many doors for a person, people get to hear about you and the way you are, without you trying to promote yourself. People with good character are beautiful and smell good to God, where as people with bad characters are a stench to him: Pro 22:1 A goodnameis rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold. When person has bad character what normally follows is a big ego, it is like self worship and there is no room for God. A good acronym for ego is : E: Easing G: God O: Out In order for a person to develop a good character, they first have to get over themselves and this will allow the Holy Spirit in. So as believers lets us develop the mind of Christ, let us operate in the fruits of the spirit and lets our light, which is the light of Christ, shine before men. Parallel Principals We are in a people business and many people are going to join you in your business, some of these people are going to have good characters and some are going to have bad ones. You are going to have to wade between the sheep and the goats and sometimes there are going to be wolves in sheep’s clothing. Remember, always put God first in your business and he will give you the discernment to see those wolves in your organisation. Eventually their true character will identify themselves and people will see what they are truly about. Make sure that you are above reproach in your business activities so even that can be a witness. Remember the bible speaks very clearly about good character in business and what God hates in business: Pro 20:10 Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the LORD. So make sure when you are conducting your business, your motives are always honourable and right. If all you want to do is sponsor Master Affiliates but mentor no one, then your motives are wrong. If all you want to do is sponsor Faststarts and mentor no one, your motives are also wrong. If all you want to do is get customers and follow up with no one, your motives are wrong. If you want to sponsor people and lead them away from the Reliv success system because you have a better way, then you need to put your EGO to one side, be humble enough to be mentored so you can give your organisation a chance to be successful. If you are not willing to do that, then it was all about you and your motives are wrong. Remember, God see all, knows all and judges all things and anything that does not stand up to his standard will be burnt up.
