You Past Does Not Dictate Your Future
Every single person that comes to Christ and is Born Again comes with a past, no one is born a Christian. Some people’s backgrounds are more colorful than others, but no matter the background, the thing that is common to us all is that we have all been forgiven and cleansed by the blood of Jesus. Sometimes the hardest thing for people to do is to forgive themselves, so even though they have already been forgiven, the enemy keeps bring back their past to their mind and they start putting themselves down thinking that they are too bad for God. This is why it is so important that we renew our minds by getting into God’s words, so that we can know him and his character. Until we defeat the enemy within, the enemy without will always be able to have victory over us! Rom 12:1 Dedicate Your Lives to God I therefore urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercies, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices that are holy and pleasing to God, for this is the reasonable way for you to worship. Rom 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but continually be transformed by the renewing of your minds so that you may be able to determine what God’s will is—what is proper, pleasing, and perfect. None of us are perfect, no matter how good we think we are, however we are being perfected by God through his Holy Spirit. So we shall make mistakes, but he gives us the grace we need to get through this journey. When we come to God our appetite’s change but that does not mean that the enemy will not try and tempt us with pervious desires to see if there is still a way in: Luk 11:24 The Return of the Unclean Spirit (Matthew 12:43-45) “Whenever an unclean spirit goes out of a person, it wanders through dry places looking for a place to rest but doesn’t find any. So it says, ‘I will go back to my home that I left.’ Luk 11:25 When it gets back home, it finds it swept clean and put in order. Luk 11:26 Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they all go in and settle there. And so the final condition of that person is worse than the first.” This is why when a person makes a decision for Christ it has to be a definitive one. We cannot take away our past but we can build towards our futures. The enemy is a liar and the father of all lies, he wants to convince people that they are too bad for God, because if he can do that then the person won’t even repent of their sins but they think, what is the point, thus sealing their own fate. But God has given us his promises, so that if we truly take them onboard it renders the enemy’s efforts in this area powerless: Rom 8:1 The Spirit Gives Life Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in union with the Messiah Jesus. Rom 8:2 For the Spirit’s law of life in the Messiah Jesus has set me free from the Law of sin and death. Understanding that our past does not dictate our future, is such a crucial understanding with regards to how we act on a day to day basis. Paul had to deal with issue in depth when he was teaching and discipling the Corinthian Church. If you think that you are bad, then you need to understand how God cleansed the people in this city! Corinth had a reputation for sexual immorality, agreed, idolatry and everything negative. It was a vibrant sea port and because of it position, had people from all over passing through. One of it’s main sites was a Temple to the Goddess Aphrodites, who is the Greek god of sexual pleasure and it was known for it’s temple prostitute’s who would go into the city and do their business. It was an entrepreneurial city and many people went there to try and get rich quick. Paul’s ministry helped to change a lot of these people as they accepted Christ into their lives. However they begin to bring some of their old practices into the church, so when you read Paul teachings and instructions in the book of Corinthians, it should be read in the context of what was happening at the time. Here is a quick example: 1Co 5:1 Disciplining for Sexual Immorality It is actually reported that sexual immorality exists among you, and of a kind that is not found even among the gentiles. A man is actually living with his father’s wife! 1Co 5:2 And you are being arrogant instead of being filled with grief and seeing to it that the man who did this is removed from among you. 1Co 5:3 Even though I am away from you physically, I am with you in spirit. I have already passed judgment on the man who did this, as though I were present with you. 1Co 5:4 In the name of our Lord Jesus, when you are gathered together (and I am there in spirit), and the power of our Lord Jesus is there, too, 1Co 5:5 turn this man over to Satan for the destruction of his body, ] so that his spirit may be saved on the Day of the Lord. This is just one of the many issues that Paul had to deal with and that city was so bad that if someone from another area wanted to describe someone else as being immortal, they would say they have been Corinthianised! Yet God was glorified in that city by the people that came out of those lifestyles. God can change and forgive anyone, so stop beating yourself up over past mistakes. Your future starts from today and everything you do moving forwards from this point. Parallel Business Principles I speak to so many people with the potential to build a very large Reliv organization but because of past failures and self doubt, it effected either their decision to even come onboard or it effected their activity once they were onboard. In order for that person to be successful in Reliv, they first have to defeat the enemy within or else it is only a matter of time before they quit. Then you look at anyone who has ever quit at anything, at the route of it, is always fear. As the Bible says, fear bring torment and a tormented person cannot be productivity. For a person to truly change their life and the life of others, they have to first have a vision for the future and then realize that the future starts with small steps done consistently every day! This is how success is and has always been achieved, so stop living in the past and keep your eyes firmly fixed forward. ************************************* Jason Gregory Business Coach & Mentor Reliv *************************************
