Having the right people around you is so important because the circles you move in reflect and effect you.
If you surround yourself we people that love God, then the quality of your conversations, the social gathering you go to, things that you think about will be different than if the majority of your friends could not care less about God. Now if am not saying you should not associate yourself with anyone who is not a Christian because we live in a world with over 7.5 billion people. Also how could you be a true witness for Christ if all the people around you were Christians? However you should hand pick your close friends very carefully. When Jesus was starting his ministry, there were many people who were attracted to him and start following him, but he hand picked the man you were going to do the closest to him very carefully, then he invested in them for 3 ½ years. Mar 3:13 Jesus Appoints Twelve Apostles (Matthew 10:1-4; Luke 6:12-16) ¶ Then Jesus went up on a hillside and called to himself those whom he had decided on, and they approached him. Mar 3:14 He appointed the Twelve, whom he called apostles, to accompany him, to be sent out to preach, Mar 3:15 and to have the authority to drive out demons. Mar 3:16 He appointed the Twelve: Simon (whom he named Peter), Mar 3:17 Zebedee’s sons James and his brother John (whom he named Boanerges, that is, Sons of Thunder), Mar 3:18 Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddeus, Simon the Cananaean, Mar 3:19 and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him. You want relationships that add value to you and not suck the life out of you, you want people around you that will give you wise advise and will not be afraid to tell you the truth, people you can trust. The danger of associating yourself with dishonest people is you can never know their truth agenda and if you listen to their advice the ripple effect can go on for generations: 1Ki 12:3 after being summoned. When Jeroboam and the entire assembly of Israel arrived, they spoke to Rehoboam, 1Ki 12:4 “Your father made our burdens unbearable. Therefore lighten your father’s requirements and his heavy burdens that he placed on us, and we’ll serve you.” 1Ki 12:5 “Come again in three days,” Rehoboam told them. So the people left 1Ki 12:6 while King Rehoboam conferred with his advisors who had worked for his father Solomon during his administration. He asked them, “What is your advice as to how I should respond to these people?” 1Ki 12:7 They advised him, “If today you are a servant, you will serve this people by answering them and speaking kindly to them. Then they will serve you forever.” 1Ki 12:8 ¶ But Rehoboam ignored the counsel that his elder advisors had given him. Instead, he consulted the younger men who had grown up with him and who worked for him. 1Ki 12:9 As a result, he asked them, “What’s your advice so that we can give an answer to these people who have asked me, ‘Please lighten the burden that your father put on us.’?” 1Ki 12:10 “This is what you should tell these people who asked you ‘Your father made our burden heavy, but you must make it lighter for us!’” the young men who grew up with Rehoboam replied. “Tell them, ‘My little finger will be thicker than my father’s whole body! 1Ki 12:11 Not only that, but since my father loaded you down heavily, I’m going to add to that burden. My father disciplined you with whips, but I’m going to discipline you with scorpions!’” 1Ki 12:12 So Jeroboam and all the people went back to Rehoboam on the third day, just as they had been directed when the king said, “Come back again in three days.” 1Ki 12:13 But the king gave the people a harsh response, because he was ignoring the counsel that his elders had given him. 1Ki 12:14 Instead, Rehoboam [Lit. he] spoke to them along the lines of what the younger men suggested. He told them “My father burdened you heavily, but I will add to that burden. If my father disciplined you with whips, I’m going to discipline you with scorpions!” Your social circles are so important, we were created to be social this is why “Birds of a feather flock together” this is why you have to guide your circle’s because not everyone will be around you for the right reasons: Pro_18:24 A man with many friends can still be ruined, but a true friend sticks closer than a brother. Jesus understood this very clearly and even though he knew Judas was going to betray him, he still appointed him as one of his apostle’s and why? So that the plan of God could be fulfilled. Have you ever heard the phrase “Keep your friends close and your enemies even closer” Well Jesus was not ignorant to Judas’s true motives but he still gave him a choice. So if God himself was careful of the people around him while he was here, how much more do we need operate in wisdom when dealing with our associates and have the right balance? 2Co 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? Parallel Business Principals In business, you cannot be successful with people that have a different agenda then you. You can work with them for a while, but eventually their true nature will be exposed and a separation will happen. In our business, in order to work with people effectively they have to have a true passion for help others as well as a strong desire to change their finances. If that balance is not right, then they will not build this business long term. The beauty about our business is we can choose the people we want to work with and just like Jesus did, once we have chosen them, we then have to take the time to invest in them, so that they too at some point can invest in others. I see Network Marketing as a mirror image of the Great Commission. We have to go into communities and people groups and tell them the good news about our opportunity. Then those who decide to joint us, we have to then mentor them, so that they can go out and do the same. So make sure you have the right people around you as you continue to build your Reliv business. ********************************************************* Jason Gregory Business Coach & Mentor Reliv *********************************************************
