As believers one of the things we constantly need to be operating in is, Wisdom and Understanding.
Wisdom is a gift from God that we can ask for more of, whereas Understanding is something that we gain through learning and life experience. So they go hand in hand and you want your understanding to guided by wisdom.
Pro_4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
Pro_24:3 Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:
Wisdom will show us who to let into the inner circle of our lives and who to keep at a distance. There are some people that have an ulterior motive and are not sincere and if you bring these types of people into your inner circle they can cause a lot of damage. A good example of this is Judas Iscariot.
We have to guard ourselves and from these people and one of the things that exposes us to them is pride. Pride can allow us to let the wrong people in simple because we want to look good or be perceived in a certain way:
2Ki 20:12 Hezekiah Shows His Treasure to the Babylonian Envoys
Some time later, Berodach-baladan the son of King Baladan of Babylon, sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah, because he had heard that Hezekiah had been ill.
2Ki 20:13 Hezekiah listened to the entourage and showed them his entire treasury, including the silver, gold, spices, the precious oil, his armory, and everything that was inventoried in his treasuries. There was nothing in his household or in his holdings that Hezekiah did not show them.
2Ki 20:14 Then Isaiah the prophet came to King Hezekiah and asked him, “What did these men have to say, and where did they come from?”
Hezekiah replied, “They came from a country far away—from Babylon.”
2Ki 20:15 He asked, “What did they see in your household?”
Hezekiah answered, “They have seen everything. In my household there is nothing in my treasuries that I haven’t shown them.”
2Ki 20:16 Then Isaiah replied to Hezekiah, “Listen to this message from the Lord:
2Ki 20:17 ‘Watch out! The days are coming when everything that’s in your house—everything that your ancestors have saved up right to this day—will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left,’ declares the Lord.
2Ki 20:18 ‘Some of your descendants—your very own seed, whom you will father—will be carried away to become officials in the palace of the king of Babylon.’”
When you let the wrong people into life it can be devastating.
The enemy uses the sin of pride as the easiest weapon to destroy us:
Pro 16:18 Pride precedes destruction;
an arrogant spirit appears before a fall.
We also have to guard our hearts because it is very easily corrupted:
Jer_17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
This is why David cried:
Psa_51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
As Christians, if we let things into our heart that should not be there, that can result in a stronghold being build up inside of us that could eventually lead us to be living in a backslidden state.
This is why we should always to be quick to forgive and not let the imagination of the heart take over. We should never feel that we are immune to this because that is the quickest way to make us vulnerable:
1Co 10:1 Warnings about Idolatry
Now I do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, of the fact that all of our ancestors who left Egypt were under the cloud. They all went through the sea,
1Co 10:2 and they all were immersed into Moses in the cloud and in the sea.
1Co 10:3 They all ate the same spiritual food
1Co 10:4 and drank the same spiritual drink, for they drank from the spiritual rock that went with them. That rock was the Messiah.
1Co 10:5 But God wasn’t pleased with most of those people, and so they were struck down in the wilderness.
1Co 10:6 Now their experiences serve as examples for us so that we won’t set our hearts on evil as they did.
1Co 10:7 Let’s stop being idolaters, as some of them were. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to play.”
1Co 10:8 Let’s stop sinning sexually, as some of them were doing, and on a single day 23,000 fell dead.
1Co 10:9 Let’s stop putting the Lord to the test, as some of them were doing, and were destroyed by snakes.
1Co 10:10 You must stop complaining, as some of them were doing, and were annihilated by the destroyer.
1Co 10:11 These things happened to them to serve as an example, and they were written down as a warning for us in whom the culmination of the ages has been attained.
1Co 10:12 Therefore, whoever thinks he is standing securely should watch out so he doesn’t fall.
Sin will take us further than we wanted to go, it will take us longer than we intended to stay and it will cost us more than we were prepared to pay.
So be very careful what and who you let in.
Parallel Business Principles
In our business, you do not have to sponsor everyone into the business simply because you spoke to them about the business. If they do not share the same core values as you or if they just come across as a negative person, then you do not have to sponsor them.
Remember our business is built on the right people as the right people can help a lot of people but the wrong person can hurt a lot of people.
In the past I have developed the wrong people and the devastation these individuals caused taught me a lot. It does not matter how much momentum you are experiencing, if it is with the wrong people, it is only temporary.
So invest your time with the right people because those are the people that can potential change the world.
Jesus took time to mentor 12 men for 3 ½ years, one bad apple fell away and was replaced but they went away and changed the world.
You may be building an organization and you may find that you have a few bad apples that will fall away, but the rest of the people that stay are going to be the ones that completely turn your finances around.
So be careful who you let in!
