Trust And Obey
As Christians we have a confidence to know that the God in which we serve can be trusted. He is the God that can be trusted, when he says something we know that he will not go back on his word.
This is why we can have the surety of salvation and when Jesus said on the cross “It is finished” he was literally saying, with this ultimate act of sacrifice that God himself was prepared to do, there is nothing else that needs to be done in order to redeem man back to himself.
From the very beginning God said he would send a redeemer:
Gen 3:15 “I’ll place hostility between you and the woman,
between your offspring and her offspring.
He’ll strike you on the head,
and you’ll strike him on the heel.”
Through out the scriptures this promise of a redeemer was stated in many places by God through is prophets:
Isa 9:6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government will be upon his shoulder,
and his name is called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
God’s message of salvation never changed, he is a God of integrity, this is why even though the bible was written by 40 authors all in different places over 1400 years and there are 66 bibles in it, it is a single message because God can be trusted.
By the very nature which we are born, we are untrustworthy and disobedient, so to trust and obey is a foreign concept to fallen man. It goes against our very sinful nature. This is why, even though Christ paid the price on the cross which allowed us into God’s kingdom, we still need to be changed from the inside out, in order to be trustworthy.
Rom 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but continually be transformed by the renewing of your minds so that you may be able to determine what God’s will is—what is proper, pleasing, and perfect.
In other word, start directing our thoughts towards God so that we can be trusted and when we can be trusted, we will obey his word.
So to be untrustworthy is to be disobedient to God because God is trustworthy and man was originally made in the image and likeness of God. So even though we lost that image and likeness when the first Adam fall in the garden, the second Adam (Jesus) bought that Image and likeness back for us:
1Co 15:45 This, indeed, is what is written: “The first man, Adam, became a living being.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.
1Co 15:46 The spiritual does not come first, but the physical does, and then comes the spiritual.
1Co 15:47 The first man came from the dust of the earth; the second man came from heaven.
1Co 15:48 Those who are made of the dust are like the man from the dust; those who are heavenly are like the man who is from heaven.
1Co 15:49 Just as we have borne the likeness of the man who was made from dust, we will also bear the likeness of the man from heaven.
This trustworthiness will spill over into ALL areas of our lives and as Christians we should ALWAYS have a good name, even with people that do not believe what we believe, simply because of our lifestyle.
Pro 16:7 When a person’s ways please the Lord,
even his enemies will be at peace with him.
So be a trustworthy person today and do not let life situation, the enemy or any other external force steal your witness!
