Looking onto Jesus who is the author and finisher of our faith! (Hebrews 12:2)
Being a Christian is all about Jesus, so if there is any other motive other than that, then a person is going in the wrong direction. Some people say they are Christians to please their spouse or their parents, some say they are Christians because they believe they can get some benefits because of that. To others they may be at a stage of life where they are looking for a change and think, “they haven’t tried Christianity yet, so lets give it a go” All of these reasons are incorrect and because they are not built on a love relationship, they will not stand the tests of time. The strength behind Christianity, which separates it from all other religions, is love and it is not just love in the sense of, “well the Bible says he loves us so I believe that”. It is a tangible love, which you not only read about but you experience and see demonstrated. This type of love can only be experienced and identified through a true relationship. As with all relationships, it grows the more time you spend with God and that is expressed through your reading and studying of the word, your personal praise & Worship and your corporate praise & worship. Being around God’s people is so important: Psa_133:1 A Song of degrees of David. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! Eph_4:3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 2Co_13:1 This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established. If a person thinks that they can be an isolated Christian, they are going in the wrong direction, because an isolated Christian is a paralyzed one and one that will eventually be picked off by Satan. We are our brothers keeper and this is why in Ephesians 6 there is no armor for our backs, because someone should be watching out for us, praying for us concerned and interceding for us: Eph 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Eph 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; Eph 6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Eph 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. Eph 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Eph 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; This life is full of challenges so the Christian has to understand that there is one greater than them who is in control! Even when the flesh tries to take over and we start to feel overwhelmed, we can be reminded of the words of David, which the Holy Spirit in his love for us can bring back to our memory: Psa 61:1 God, hear my cry; pay attention to my prayer. Psa 61:2 From the end of the earth I will cry to you whenever my heart is overwhelmed. Place me on the rock that’s too high for me. Psa 61:3 For you have been a refuge for me, a tower of strength before the enemy. Psa 61:4 Let me make my home in your tent forever; let me hide under the shelter of your wings. This gives us confidence that whatever challenge we are going through, God will bring us through. If you are living in fear and apprehension, then you are going in the wrong direction. If you are doubting God’s ability to bring you through or turn a situation around, then you are going in the wrong direction. If you start seeking the counsel of man instead of the counsel of God, then you are going in the wrong direction: Psa 1:1How blessed is the person, who does not take the advice of the wicked, who does not stand on the path with sinners, and who does not sit in the seat of mockers. Psa 1:2 ¶ But he delights in the Lord’s instruction, [ and meditates in his instruction day and night. So stay on the right path, because narrow is the gate and straight is the way that leads to salvation and only a few find it!
